This is the composer James MacMillan's lecture on music and religion, which was recorded a few weeks ago. I come in with a question at 34.10. Sadly they didn't include my comeback, with the brilliant theological insight that Christian Rock is the only authentic religious music. The really interesting point though is that supposedly religious classical music is appreciated and sustained primarily by the same 'secular liberal elite' that disdains religion itself. In that context, MacMillan's defence of high culture is strangely at odds with his defence of religion.
