The Manifesto Club at the Battle of Ideas

The Manifesto Club is delighted to be taking part in the Battle of Ideas festival at the Royal College of Art in London on 27 and 28 October 2007.

The Battle of Ideas


We are the session partners for the debate Child Protection Paranoia: has vetting gone too far?, at which Josie Appleton will debate with Camilla Cavendish of The Times, president of Childline Esther Rantzen, and Dr Eileen Munro from the LSE.

Other Steering Committee members are also taking an active part in the festival:

Frank Furedi will be launching his new book Invitation to Terror; and speaking at the debates What is Education for?, and The Resurrection of religion

James Panton will be speaking on the keynote plenary Democracy and its discontents; and chairing the debates Post Ideology: the moralising of society and the politics of good behaviour and Child Protection Paranoia: Has vetting gone too far?

Dolan Cummings has produced the Battle for Music strand, and will be chairing The Resurrection of religion, and Political Theatre: Political animal?.

Brendan O’Neill and Bill Durodie will both be speaking on Iraq: what now for the war on terror?

Brendan is also speaking at Digital commons: Does new technology add up to a new public sphere? and chairing The future of journalism.

Bill is also speaking on the panel What are the barriers to science in the 21st century?
